the divine and time

so gabriel is having a crisis of faith.
and he has become incarnate.
(love that image. to become embodied)
and he visits mary.
but they argue.
Gabriel: But I visit all the time!
Mary: It's been twenty-two years since I last saw you.

To help Gabriel understand human time, God gives Gabriel a watch.
At the end of 24 hours, Gabriel doesn't get it, so God gives Gabriel a calendar.
At the end of a year, Gabriel doesn't get it.
So God sends Gabriel to meet Charles Darwin.

sunday rehearsal

we had a great rehearsal on sunday. suzanne, taylor, alexandra - joined by hannah (a friend of tay's and a's) and mary who drove all the way from birmingham! played with a new improv - that i really like. Then we created a movement phrase out of a series of stage directions from one of the dialogues i am writing between mary and gabriel.
fellow annunciation bloggers - feel free to choreograph your own and send to me! or collect some visual images, or write some music...

she stands.
she moves to a new place pointing to where she was.
she points to herself in a new place.
she places her hands over her eyes.
she spins until she is dizzy and falls down.
she stubs her toe.
she looks for time.
she worries.
she measures.
she sets a pendulum in motion.
she makes a mark in the sand.

Come join us for improv structures from evolutionary theory on sunday feb 15 from 12:30-2:30 at Little Beirut. followed by a double birthday potluck (me and normando)

May Day

May Day is Mary's Day. At the Visitation Convent in St. Paul Minnesota, all of us, kindergarteners through seniors would dress in our white uniforms and form a processional which snaked around the grounds, stopping at various stautues and singing in three part harmony. It was great to be a part of. And then there's Amy Grant's lovely song Breath of Heaven...

Surfacing

7 Stages is with us! - raising money and working to get "The Annunciation" presented there in the Fall. I am dreaming of a cast of thousands - or at least a dozen. And I am dreaming of an intergenerational cast. Suzanne has been helping me to put this part of the dream together. Nicole has most generously made her studio available.... now we just need to walk in the door....So for all, any, of you interested we will be meeting on these dates for rehearsal/creation sessions. We will work from 12:30-2:30. The idea is to gather for four times, and then take a break. And then re-group. Part of this is to accomodate my tour schedule. and it is also to give us time to take care of the rest of our lives..... Please join if you can:

Here is our January/February schedule: All sessions are from 12:30-2:30
Jan 31
Feb 8
Feb 14
Feb 15
Then we won't get together again until March
March 8
March 15
March 21
March 28
Then not again until April 11.
For awhile we will be meeting at Nicole's studio at Studioplex, then we will probably move to my studio. Small, but it will be spring and we can start dancing outside. Nicole's studio is at Studioplex, at the
Corner of Irwin and Auburn. Enter Studioplex parking lot from Auburn. Go to the back of the buildings and turn right. Park in any unmarked spot. Nicole's studio has a large number 7 painted outside. it is on the ground level. It also says, with a small sign, Gardenhouse Dance and has photos of Gardenhouse dancers in the window.

You should also know that The Annunciation has expanded... Darwin has shown up and wants to dance, too.
Hope you can join us!
love, c
