snack of the annunciaition

Would love input on this question......
I know there is a Feast of the Annunciation, and I always like to share food at the beginning of a performance. I usually give out oreo cookies. What food/snack might welcome us into this piece? thoughts?

  1. I have been thinking about this question of food and the more I think about it, here are some questions I have. This idea of food brought up an ongoing question of the relationship of the work to religiosity- in other words, how much of the piece do you want to weight in religion and then, how is the food reflective of that? Is it a story/poem/dance about Gabriel, Mary, God in particular? Is it a story/poem/dance about every man, every woman, every conscience? Or a blend and in what ways? We've also said in rehearsal that ultimately it is Gabriel's story/journey (despite title), so perhaps a question is what would Gabriel serve? And would he offer one thing at the front of the story and another at the end? Or is there something he holds onto throughout that would be represented by what he'd serve? Or is it the narrator who is serving, in which case, is it what would Celeste like to serve? And is the food a comment on the piece? A part of it, if so in what way? Is the food metaphorical, representative, invitational, or just for fun? Another shared experience? Is it meant to somehow set the audience up or prepare them for what they are about to experience? If so, what do you want the setup to achieve?.... ok, enough for now! Love, Nicole
